Spears the Speedster Grabs Two Offers

Milan RB Ronald Spears is starting to become a talked about name in the state of Michigan. After a couple of impressive camp performances in which the track star put up blazing 40 times, Spears racked up his first few offers with the possibility for more.

At the annual Wolverine Technique School at the University of Michigan, one of the most interesting events is the smokehouse race, where the fastest players from each position line up and compete for the title of fastest camper. This year's winner at running back was Milan's Ronald Spears. But the diminutive (5'6, 165) back didn't stop there.

"My fastest forty was a 4.34 at the Toledo camp," he said, "In track, I run the 100m and 200m, but I'm really more of a 100m and long jump guy. I ran the 100s in 10.7," as for pursing a college track career as well, Spears simply said, "if I had the chance, I'd do it."

That speed helped Spears to a big junior season which included a 376 yard, 6 touchdown game against Grosse Ile. It was performances like those along with his blazing camp times that drew the interest of several schools in the Midwest.

"Central Michigan has been writing me the most. I also hear from Eastern Michigan, Michigan and Toledo. Toledo has my highlight film and they were thinking about offering me at the Michigan camp. I was coming real close, but I haven't heard much from them since the Michigan camp. Both Central and Eastern offered me though."

Even though the explosive back is excited by those initial offers, he says he is in no hurry to make a decision and is likely to wait until after the season. What it does come time for him to commit, Spears is sure it will come down to more than football.

"Well, I'm not really concerned about playing time, " he confessed, "I'm looking for education, do they have what I want to major in, are the coaches concerned about education, not just football wise, but academic wise."

And just what does Spears hope to major in?

"I want to be a neurologist."
