Thursday Night Kickoff Preview & Predictions

The Michigan High school football season officially kicks off tonight with a solid schedule of games featuring some of the state's best. Michigan Varsity breaks down three of the bigger matchups and steps out with some predictions.

Midland Dow @ Flint Southwestern
A playoff team a year ago, Dow has a very good team coming back but will be tested by the athletes Southwestern puts on the field. WR Tyrone Ward and RB Mark Ingram are big time athletes who give the Trojans lots of firepower. However, Dow has a strong defense led by LB Chad Archer and DB Dominique Endline. Dow usually is well coached, makes few mistakes and wins the special teams battles with their fabulous kicking game and I expect it to be no different tonight.

PREDICTION: Midland Dow – 28, Flint Southwestern – 19

Port Huron Northern @ Macomb Dakota
Tonight, the title defense begins for Dakota and the post James Stallons era also commences. Senior Chad Lovett is smart and efficient though and should be able to do the job especially given the offensive line he'll be behind. Also, sophomore RB Keefe Corley is a big time player in the making and FS Kyle DeMaster is always good for a couple big plays. Dakota should roll in this one.

PREDICTION: Macomb Dakota – 38, Port Huron Northern – 14

Saginaw @ Bay City Central
After making a playoff run last year, BCC is ready to take it even farther this year. They have a couple of wonderful athletes in Trenton Robinson and Luther Ware who should have a big game tonight. Saginaw QB Omari Humes will be the key tonight, RB DeShawn Hayes is the star of the team, but BCC will stack the box on him and it will be up to Humes to make plays. Even with the athletes Saginaw has, this one shouldn't be that close.

PREDICTION: Bay City Central - 28, Saginaw - 7
