Week Three Predictions

Conference play starts for some schools this week and there are some big matchups, especially in PSL-1. We spin around the state looking at the top games and giving our predictions on the outcomes.

Coopersville @ East Grand Rapids
Is EGR QB Cal Blair healthy after spraining an ankle last week? He came back periodically throughout the game, so we think he'll be a go. Coopersville has had a tough start to the season, while EGR is rolling. Don't look for that to stop tonight.
Prediction: EGR - 28, Coopersville - 12

Detroit Crockett @ Detroit Cass Tech
Crockett plays their first PSL-1 game and judging from the Rockets' first two games, they'll be ready to go. Cass Tech on the other hand has struggled to a 1-1 start. The Technicians main issues have been up front and that is where Crockett's strength lies. Cass better find a way to score points soon as they have only scored a combined 12 points their first two games.
Prediction: Crockett - 27, Cass Tech - 14

Detroit Denby @ Detroit Southeastern
A contrast in style here as Southeastern will look to throw the ball all over the field with QB Charles Burrell and Denby will be running a lot with their talented stable of backs. Denby has some good athletes, but can they keep up with WR Fred Smith? Maybe not, but the Denby running game should control the ball well enough that Mr. Smith might not be a deciding factor.
Prediction: Denby - 24, Southeastern - 14

Flint Carman-Ainsworth @ Flint Powers
This is a good matchup. Carman-Ainsworth has lost two tough ones to two of the state's best teams. I expect them to get on track tonight.
Prediction: Carman-Ainsworth - 30, Flint Powers - 21

Grandville @ Grand Haven
Both teams come in at 2-0, but the Bulldogs have played tougher competition, so it is a little bit tough to gauge where both teams are at. But Grandville has tough and has the better skill athletes.
Prediction: Grandville - 20, Grand Haven - 10

Highland Park @ Romulus
A lot of good athletes on the field for this one. Romulus RB Mario Crawford will present a tough challenge for the Polar Bears, but their front seven is talented as well and their defense as a whole has only given up 13 points in two games. Highland Park QB Ian Thomas played well last week and if they get another performance like that out of him, I expect a Polar Bear victory on the road.
Prediction: Highland Park - 23, Romulus - 7

West Ottawa @ Hudsonville
The Panthers got a big game out of QB Tyler Van Tubergen last week, but while that bodes well for them, Hudsonville has been on a tear and I don't expect that to stop tonight.
Prediction: Hudsonville - 35, West Ottawa - 14

Macomb Dakota @ Utica Eisenhower
Eisenhower got on track last week rolling East Detroit, but Dakota is Dakota and the Cougars haven't shown any signs that they're ready to give up their state title yet. RB Terrence Shelby has been outstanding and QB Mitch Lovett has been efficient.
Prediction: Dakota - 31, Eisenhower - 19
