James Ready for PSL Championship

Saturday, Martez James and his Detroit Northwestern Colts will play for a PSL Championship. The senior quarterback talked to us about the game and updated us on how recruiting is going for him and his talented teammates.

Saturday's PSL Championship will be Martez James' first crack at a championship. The senior quarterback has had an outstanding season and it came to a head last week when he passed for two touchdowns and ran for another in Detroit Northwestern's semi-final win over Detroit Douglass.

"The season has been going great," he reported to us, "We're 7-1 and Saturday we're playing Osborn for the PSL Championship."

The game was originally scheduled for Ford Field but has now been moved to Northwestern where it will be a home game for James and the Colts.

His outstanding play this season has not only gotten his team to the doorstep of a city title, but has also attracted the attention of college scouts.

"I've been hearing a lot from Akron and Toledo," he said, "I went down to Toledo for a game and I plan to visit more schools after the season."

Also a free safety for the Colts, James is open to the possibility of being a defensive back in college, but right now is simply considering all of his options.

"Akron wants me to play safety, Toledo said I could maybe play quarterback. They want me as an athlete and they let you try out the positions you want to play first."

James' success has also come to the benefit of a talented group of wide receivers. Kason Dickerson and Anthony Hollis, his go-to guys are also being heavily recruited as is defensive back Tevin Kellum. The thought of keeping this group of talented friends together is something they have all considered.

"They're looking at Kason, 'Tone, Tevin Kellum and some other players on our team too, so if Toledo offered all of us, we'd probably go there."

James and Northwestern play Osborn for the PSL Championship on Saturday at 1pm.
