Brendon Kay came into the year as the state's top rated quarterback. But when I saw him in person and on tape, I saw a kid who needed some work. He had arm strength to spare, toughness and mobility, but his accuracy was inconsistent and so was his decision making.
But that was as a junior. In the summer, he looked good in camps and 7-7s and that carried over to his senior year. He looked like a senior should. He was confident, made quick decisions and took better care of the football. It resulted in his team winning a state title.
Kay should be able to push for a starting spot soon at Cincinnati. His toughness and mobility projects well to the spread offense they run there.
Size, moxie, arm strength and a real football player's mentality make up Brendon Kay and that is why he is our 16th rated senior for the 2008 class in Michigan.
