Top 250 Seniors - Post Camp Update

With over 50 players in the state already with FBS (Division 1) offers, Michigan is enjoying one of its strongest recruiting seasons in recent memory. The depth in the state is outstanding and we have the list to prove it. There has been a lot of movement on the board as we have gotten more film and been to camps and 7-7s.

1
William Campbell DT Detroit Cass Tech 6'5 315
What I Know: Will has the potential to be an All-American and top NFL Draft pick. He moves very well for a player his size and has the mean streak in him coaches love.
What I Need to See: He has played mad and with a chip on his shoulder at every camp and combine he has been to since January, will he play every down like that this season?
2
Edwin Baker RB Oak Park 5'9 205
What I Know: Baker is as natural a running back to come through the state in recent years. The speed and lateral agility are easy to see, but what sets him apart are his instincts and vision.
What I Need to See: Stay healthy this year. Without Joevall Hoseay, he will be the "Rock" (as he is nicknamed) the Knights lean on. He has to show he can take the pounding.
3
Chris Norman LB Detroit Renaissance 6'2 220
What I Know: Norman is a fine athlete. He has good straight line speed and that allows him to play an attacking style of football whether he is blasting running backs in the hole or blitzing off the edge.
What I Need to See: As a high school player, Norman has the goods. I need to see that he can add some weight and still be able to move like he does now.
4
Dion Sims TE Orchard Lake St. Mary's 6'5 235
What I Know: It is hard to find kids with Dion's size and athleticism. He could be a matchup problem at tight end or develop into an athletic edge rusher at defensive end.
What I Need to See: He needs to show me he's a football player and that's in more ways than one. First, he has to dedicate himself to the game (he may choose to play basketball in college) and I also want to see the physicality and killer instinct big time football prospects have.
5
James Jackson WR Grand Ledge 5'10 178
What I Know: Jackson is fast! His track times don't lie and neither do the tapes of him blowing past defenders. He is a hard worker who has gotten bigger this summer and has improved his routes.
What I Need to See: That the added size makes a difference. Jackson has had some issues staying healthy and I want to see him take some hits this year and show he is ready for Big 10 ball.
6
Teric Jones RB Detroit Cass Tech 5'10 200
What I Know: Jones has outstanding speed and explosiveness and can catch the ball to boot. He has worked hard in the weight room and has a very solid build.
What I Need to See: This is his year to be "the man" at Cass and he needs to seize the opportunity. I'd also like him to show he can run inside and grind out yards rather than just be a home run hitter.
7
Larry Caper RB Battle Creek Central 5'11 220
What I Know: Backs don't get a whole lot more complete than Caper. He can run, catch and pass block as well as any back in the state and does all three collectively better than any back I've seen in this class.
What I Need to See: That he can maintain his slashing style even with the weight he has added. Caper looks good. He is solid and built like a rock, but looks more like a power back these days, it will be interesting to see if he changes his running style at all this year.
8
Reid Fragel TE Grosse Pointe South 6'8 260
What I Know: 17-year olds who are 6'8, can bench and squat as much as college seniors and have single digit body fat percentages don't grow on trees. Although many think Fragel is an OT waiting to happen, he has the athleticism to play TE.
What I Need to See: Be the go to guy this year. Jimmy Saros is off to Brown and a lot of passes are going to be coming Reid's way. I know he can make the fundamental plays, I want to see him make a few spectacular, game changing ones this year as the leader of his team.
9
Cameron Gordon WR/LB Inkster 6'2 210
What I Know: Cameron could be a starter on either side of the ball for a lucky school. He is a sticky fingered receiver on offense and an athletic linebacker on defense.
What I Need to See: What is his best position? Not many receivers like to hear that it's linebacker, but right now, that is beginning to become the consensus. Cameron needs to show he has the speed and playmaking ability to be a big time wideout because he has the tools to be a big time linebacker.
10
Andrew Maxwell QB Midland 6'3 185
What I Know: Maxwell has torn it up this summer. He has nice velocity on his ball and can make all the throws. He has some moxie and leadership to him too which you always like to see in a quarterback.
What I Need to See:
Just a little more consistency. There were some games last year where he was awesome, others where he forced some passes. If he performs in pads this fall like he did in shorts this summer, his ranking will climb.
11
Hersey Jackson RB/FB Allendale 6'0 210
12
Shamari Benton SS Birmingham Brother Rice 6'0 183
13
Jeremy Gainer SS/LB Livonia Clarenceville 6'2 210

16
Zac Matthias OT Hemlock 6'5 290
17
Mitch Kessell TE Birmingham Seaholm 6'3 255
18
Donald Spencer WR Ypsilanti 6'4 185
19
Dylan Farrington DE Adrian 6'5 225
20
Thomas Gordon S Detroit Cass Tech 5'11 185
RISER:
I had Gordon cautiously ranked before as he had really only played quarterback and while he flashed potential, was not a high-major level prospect under center. He is a high level prospect as an athlete though and he has proven that this summer. His combination of speed, strength and surprising ball skills project well to safety and he is only getting better back there.
21
Charles Chapman OT Carleton Airport 6'7 283
22
DeMarkus Bracy TE/LB Flint Southwestern 6'4 230
HOT SHOT DEBUT:
Always considered a basketball player, Bracy is now built more like a gridster than a hooper. He could play linebacker, tight end or defensive end at the next level and could do any of them well. Every time I watch him though, I can't help but be reminded of Antonio Gates a little bit, so I'll slate Bracy on offense first right now but he can help a team in a number of ways.
23

44
Tevon Conrad OT Detroit Pershing 6'7 310
45
Jason Johnson QB Durand 6'1 175
46
Alan Freeman RB Inkster 5'9 185
47
Damond Smith CB Inkster 5'10 165
RISER:
Damond Smith never listened to the doubters. Not when he was stuck behind a ton of talent at Cass Tech or when he had only an OK performance at an Akron 7-7. Smith kept coming back and has been outstanding at camps this summer. No coincidence that those performances have brought four offers to the table. If his play from the summer carries over to the fall, he may have more to choose from.

72
Kelip Goodwin WR South Haven 6'2 180
73
Undra Peterson RB Adrian 5'9 175
74
Mike Green WR Saginaw 6'1 175
75
Hassan Amen CB Dearborn Fordson 5'10 185
RISER:
Although he and Ali Alaboody form one of the best one two punches in the state at running back, I actually like Amen as a college cornerback. By running in the 4.5s, he has alleviated speed concerns and has shown time and again to have great ball skills. He is also a confident player and just has a knack for making plays that can't be taught. He's one of the state's most underappreciated players at this point.

84
Adam Gulvas LB/DE Standich Sterling 6'3 230
85
Alvin Gholston DT/OL Detroit Cooley 6'2 260
RISER:
Cooley isn't normally a place known for pumping out recruits but that might change soon as the team has a had a couple of nice propsects over the past few years. The current crop has strong linemen including Gholston, who is starting to be noticed by some big programs.
