"I've been to Grand Valley State, Bowling Green, Michigan State, I'm going to Western Michigan, but haven't gone there yet. Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan are coming up pretty soon too."
Of those schools, Childers says he is receiving the most interest from Grand Valley and Bowling Green and feels those schools are the most likely to eventually offer. Having been to both, he has already gotten a good feel for what both programs have to offer.
"It was great," he said of GVSU, "I was there for their camp first, there was a lot of competition, it was fun and the coaches are very welcoming, down to earth and I liked it there."
As for Bowling Green, he said, "It was fun, again, the coaches were welcoming. I mean, it's quite a drive for me, but I liked it there a lot. The facilities are really nice, they just redid them all. I've been talking to their coaches, they didn't see a lot of me last year. They want to see how much I've grown and how I play this year and how I've grown over the summer."
The local connection at GVSU has allowed Childers to see several Laker games, most recently, their game against Ferris State and so far, he has liked what he has seen.
"It was amazing, I've been to some Grand Valley games because my cousin went there. I've always loved the football atmosphere there, everybody tailgating, it's just amazing."
All those factors combined, have the Lakers high on Childers' list.
"I liked the coaches, I have to fit into the school education wise and Grand Valley is one of the top ones for me for academic reasons. It just has to be the right fit for me and GVSU is the top choice, as of right now."
Thus, do not be surprised if he makes the short trip from Muskegon to Allendale again sometime soon.
"I hope to take another visit there, I'll call Coach Brown and Coach Mitchell and try to schedule an official visit."
