Nike Combine An Eye Opener For Mends

2014 Kansas City area running back/ linebacker has an eye opening experience after finishing among the top three overall at the recent Chicago Nike combine. His numbers instantly caught the attention of college coaches.

This past Saturday was a big day for 2014 Winnetonka (MO) RB/S  prospect Aaron Mends 6'1" 204 as he participated in the Nike combine held in Chicago (IL) and finished #3 overall in their Sparq texting from hundreds of participants.

"I was shocked," exclaimed Mends upon finding out that he finished 3rd overall with a Sparq rating of 112.20, including a personal best of 37.3" in the vertical jump.

"I have been working very hard after school to prepare for this. I went there with something to prove, and when I got there, I realized how big of a deal it was seeing all the players and how good the competition was. So, when they told me what my final ranking was I was surprised. But it feels good to know that I stand up so well against great competition."

Mends was asked to stay over for the next days Nike camp competition but was unable to.

His numbers did not take long to reach the eyes and ears of college coaches.

"Iowa emailed me and congratulated me. I have been talking to them for a while and they want me to come camp with them and have talked about a possible offer. Illinois did the same thing. Coach Hill from Missouri spoke with my coach and is coming to see me this Wednesday. Illinois State is coming as well, and Central Arkansas has been talking to me and seems close to offering. They contacted me," said Mends.

Aaron, who has lift maxes of 555 lbs in the squat and a bench max of 325 lbs, also informed me that Illinois and Iowa State want him to come camp with them and that he will be attending both in June.

"I think I am done with combines,"Mends said." I will now just focus on attending camps  this summer like Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State and Mizzou if they invite me. "
