Schaffner Secures First Offer

The state of Missouri looks like it has a pretty good crop of Tight End prospects for it's class of 2014, especially in the Kansas City area, as another one has received his first offer with more likley on the way.

It's an unusually good year for Tight End prospects in the state of Missouri for 2014. The latest prospect to receive an offer is Raymore-Peculiar standout Scott Schaffner 6'4" 215 4.6 forty.

Schaffner informed us of receiving his first offer from Florida Atlantic on Tuesday and reflected on it.

"I'm just grateful Coach Allen believes in me and my ability," said Schaffner. "Florida Atlantic is a very family oriented school and I really like that. Coach Sims and Coach Allen really made my family feel at home. Getting that 1st offer feels so good. I've worked so hard to get it. Its just been a very good day for me and my family."

Schaffner had recently taken an unofficial visit down to FAU and enjoyed the experience.

"I liked the new stadium and the campus is beautiful. Tight End coach Jared Allen is a really nice guy. I felt really comfortable there. And the weather isn't bad!! FAU is really going in the right direction with football, and I think i would fit in good with their offense."

The sure-handed TE prospect has really put in the work in the off-season, training with former college and NFL player Mark Simoneau, as well as with former NFL Pro Bowl and Packer Hall of Fame Tight End Paul Coffman. He was recently one of the standouts of the Blue Gray combine running a 4.6 forty time and 4.2 shuttle.

More schools are taking notice, including the home state Missouri Tigers, who were by Schaffner's school late last week.

"Coach Hill came to Ray-Pec and spoke to Coach Kruse about me. I have talked to him for a bit. He wanted to know how much i was weighing and wanted to make sure i was coming to camp at Mizzou in June. I attended their junior day and really felt like I belonged there. Hopefully, their interest will increase in me," Schaffner said.

Other schools besides the Tigers have been by the school recently, including Iowa and Iowa State, and are showing interest.

"Coach Kruse said he has been in touch with Iowa State last week asking about me. Coach Brown at Iowa State emailed us and said he wants to establish a good relationship with me. Coach Kruse told me that he thinks Iowa and Iowa State are really interested. He said they both had really great things to say about me. Oklahoma State is sending me a lot of mail. I also heard from USF –South Florida recently," said Schaffner.
