Clayton (MO) QB Chase Haslett comes from a football background with his father being the famous NFL coach James Haslett.
Now, Chase is the one getting attention in football circles, including a recent offer from the University of Illinois to play quarterback for the Big 10 school.
ShowMePreps.com recently spoke with him about the offer and his thoughts on the Illini.
"It was kind of a surprise", said Haslett. "I am really excited about the offer Illinois has given me. For many months I have been in contact with them, including them coming to my school two times, watching me play baseball, and me attending their 7 on 7 as well as Junior Day.Then I hadn't heard from them for awhile and suddenly I got my offer in the mail."
Haslett, who was 10 of 22 for 187 yards and a TD in his first game this season, has been working with Quarterback guru Skip Stitzell for a couple of years now. Stitzell offers personal coaching for QBs, and Haslett becomes his fourth QB prospect to earn a D1 offer this year.
"Coach Skip has been a big help in my development. He always preaches footwork, footwork, footwork and it has paid off."
I asked Chase if he might be close to pulling the trigger on the Illinois offer?
"I plan on talking things over with my parents over the next few weeks. I wanted to get a few games into the season and show what I can do on the field, but something might happen in the next couple of weeks."
Haslett was greatful for the offer and it appears that Illinois has the chance to reel him in possibly soon.
"I am grateful that the coaches including Paul Petrino, Jeff Brohm, and Ron Zook believe I can play Big Ten football. I plan to prove them right. The campus is beautiful and the fans are great, i'm very excited."
