Lindsay Holy Family (10-1) vs. Mullen (11-0) .

.

Lindsay Holy Family defeated No.1 rated Pope John in the semi-finals to earn a return to the state title game. They lost last year to O'Neill St. Mary. This year the Bulldogs will draw from the experience of last year's game and the experience of having won the state title in 2000. They are led by All-Stater Jeff Bender. .

Mullen was the likely team to ride into Lincoln from the West. They have a veteran team led by All-State running back Steven Dent (a junior), senior QB Travis Young, and lineman David Kraye. Kraye at 290 lbs will get a great deal of attention. Mullen has been to the title game twice before in 1990 and 1998 winning the state title both times. .

----- the pick ..... Mullen 35-22 .

Class D-1 .

Thursday November 20, 2003.

Howells (11-0) vs. Overton (10-1) .

.

Howells is the three time defending state title holder and will make the effort for number 4 this year. The Howell Bobcat seniors are 49-1 for their high school careers. All-Staters Mat Eikmeier and Michael Bayer are two of the key players on the Howell team but they are deep and talented as a team. Several key reserves have seen plenty of playing time. .

Overton stumbled during the regular season to Amherst but were able to overcome the loss and earn the right to play in the championship game. Overton has excellent size along the line for any class size school and especially D-1 with Andy Lange, Andy Nitsch, and Orion Mathies all 255 lbs +. If they are able to control the trenches on offense and defense then they will have the opportunity to win the schools first Nebraska High School state football championship. Overton was the state runner-up in 1994 and last made the the playoffs. .

.

----- the pick .... Howells 28-6 .
