Ellington, Henderson Spark Playaz Title Win

The Playaz club of New Jersey defeated the New York Ravens AAU team in a title game held on the campus of Seton Hall University

SOUTH ORANGE, NEW JERSEY -- Rising junior Wayne Ellington scored 23 points and fellow 2006 teammate Gerald Henderson, Jr., addded 14 points to lead the Playaz Gold team to a 66-56 title win over the New York Ravens. The Playaz Ball, sponsored by ADIDAS and run by Jimmy Salmon, had plenty of talent on hand in the tournament held on the campus of Seton Hall University.

The Ravens, playing without star rising senior Ricky Torres (a sore knee), possess some deep and talented players. Artie Green's rotation of players helped the Ravens keep the score close to about two minutes left in the game.

The Ravens actually held a 33-29 lead until Ellington and Henderson got going in the second half. A solid effort by Brandon Costner also helped the Playaz win the title. Costner, who had some foul trouble, managed to contribute 10 points and seven rebounds.

Rich Jackson, a rising junior from St. Raymond's, was very impressive today. He scored 15 points in the final while Elvis Lora added 13 points for Green's team. Shawn Hillard, a lefty senior forward from St. Raymond's, also scored 10 points for the Ravens.

Many high profile programs were on hand to watch the players mentioned in this article. Among them: Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall, St. John's, North Carolina State, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Connecticut, Miami, and Boston College.
