Scout's Take: Calvin Allen

Breaking down New Mexico's top student-athlete, Calvin Allen from La Cueva

Height: 6'6 240
Recruiting news: Currently holds offers from New Mexico, Arizona and San Diego State

Evaluation: When looking at the film of Calvin Allen, the first thing that jumps out to you is his size. He is listed at 6'6 and 240 pounds and on film he looks every bit that big. Allen, has very good feet for a man that big. He is a good athlete that is still raw, but has the potential a few years from now to be a very good football player. On the defensive side of ball, he will sometimes just standup out of his stance, he uses his hands good enough that he can get off of blocks at this level, but he may struggle with that in the future. In the run game he reads the ball carrier very well and again uses his hands to create extension from the offensive lineman, than shed and make the tackle.

Allen is a player that could play a number of positions at the next level. TE/OT/DE/DT. But I truly feel that his best position will be as an offensive tackle. He has great feet, as evidence of him being a pass catching TE for La Cueva. Guys that are 6'6 and 240 with a frame to be in the 300 pound range don't grow on trees. He has the frame, size and arm length that college coaches drool over when it comes to offensive lineman. As an offensive lineman prospect he has all the tools, but will need time to develop them at the college level.

The offers he currently has are warranted and I expect more offers may come his way, later in the process. You can't teach size and athleticism and Calvin Allen has both.
