Our next feature Player Spotlight interview comes from one of New Mexico's top big man in La Cueva DT Brett Kennedy. Kennedy is a two time all state selection as a sophomore and junior. He also was honorable mention as a freshman. New Mexico Insider recently had a chance to speak with Brett to talk about this upcoming season and also to see what's going on with recruiting.
New Mexico Insider: What is your official height,
weight, bench, squat, clean and 40 time?
Brett: I'm 6'2.5, 255, Bench/; 315,
Squat: 420, 40: 5.1
Mexico Insider: What were your stats from last
Brett: Last season I was 1st
team all district, 1st team all metro as well as 1st team
all state. I also got
1st team in all three categories as a
Mexico Insider: What are your goals for this
Brett: Hopefully try and win the state
championship this season. And also
try and get a scholarship as well.
Mexico Insider: What has been your greatest
Brett: Playing in the state championship
my freshman year and winning state titles back to back during my freshman and
Mexico Insider: What are you doing to prepare for
Brett: We have football practice in the morning
and I train in kickboxing as well as lifting and running with the
Mexico Insider: Do you play any other
Brett: I throw the shot and disc in
Mexico Insider: What is your favorite thing about
the game of football?
Brett: The ability to hit someone and not get
in trouble for it. The physical
aspect of the game is something I like.
Mexico Insider: What is your strength as a
Brett: My pass rushing abilities are
probably my strong point.
Mexico Insider: What is your weakness as a
Brett: My quickness and my 40 time. I know I'm fast and quick in a 10 to 20
yard zone but my overall top end speed probably needs to be a little
Mexico Insider: Name some teammates that people
really need to watch out for next season?
Brett: Richard Bolhken RB/CB, Justin
Dugger FB/MLB, Michael Muniz OT
Mexico Insider: Who is the best player you have
ever played against?
Brett: Darius Jackson from Sandia High School. He was a quarterback and he was tough to
bring down and a great athlete.
Mexico Insider: What is the best piece of advice
you have ever gotten? Who did you
get it from?
Brett: Coach Labato told me that you
might not always like all of your coaches all of the time but you have to
respect them. I think that works
with your teachers and coaches as well.
Mexico Insider: Who has been the most influential
person in your life? Why?
Brett: My mom and dad because they have
really given me everything in my life that I needed. They always back me 100% in what ever I
choose to do in life. They have
forgiven me with some of my mistakes that I have made.
Mexico Insider: Who is your favorite professional
Brett: I love Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers
Mexico Insider: How would your coach describe you
as a player?
Brett: He would say I'm hard working and
I bring a lot of skill and technique for a big man.
Mexico Insider: Who is currently contacting you
Mexico, Army, UTEP, New Mexico State. Army is recruiting me the hardest right
