Friday Night Studs

A quick look at several of the top performances from last night. Several of the top players in New Mexico had amazing nights.

Last night several players had amazing games.  Here's a quick look at several of last night's standouts.

  • Alamagordo's Clay Griffen ran for 111 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Teammate CJ Oakley put up 139 yards and 2 touchdowns and finally Carlos DeLaCruz added 144 yards on the ground, as the Tigers crushed Goddard 40-7.

  • There are several candidates for the top signal caller in all of New Mexico this year.  Cloudcraft multi purpose QB Aaron Capps is really making a case that he should be mentioned on that list.  Last night all he did was pass for 257 yards and 3 touchdowns, if that wasn't enough he also ran for 151 yards and a score.  All together that's 408 yards of total offense and 4 total touchdowns.

  • Clovis teammates Brian Mead and Manuel Robles combined to rush for 377 yards in a 34-14 win over Eldorado.  Very impressive stats, it will be interesting to see if Mead and company can do the same against La Cueva next week in what is probably the game of the week.

  • How about the top defensive player of night.  Silver High School standout Michael Ogas was had 3, that's right 3 interceptions helping Silver win 26-25 over Roswell in a very close game.

Game Balls

Each week we will be giving out an imaginary game ball just too different players or coaches or whoever we think deserves a side not of mentioning.

1st game ball goes to the offensive line of the Alamagordo Tigers.  As a former lineman myself when ever we get a chance to give the big boys up front some love we will.  Getting a runningback 100 yards on the ground isn't an easy task, let alone when you get three.  Very nice job boys.

2nd game ball goes to Mother Nature.  Mother Nature showed up all over New Mexico last night forcing several games to take huge breaks and having other games cancelled due to rain and lightning.

Of course we understand we will not always mention all the players who deserved to be given recognition.  Please help us in not forgetting players.  Players, coaches, parents and fans, if you have a player from the night before who you would like to nominate as a "Friday Night Stud" please email me at

Please send them to me as soon as you can, hopefully by noon of the following Saturday after each game.

Get out and support local high school football.
