PrepNewMexico.com: What kind of things are you looking forward to about Spring Ball?
I am just looking forward to getting out on the field and work on position drills with our younger players. This is when we see which players are potentially able to step up for next year.
PrepNewMexico.com: What players from last years squad will be missed most this year?
Joe LeHockey is a player that will be missed on both the defensive and offensive side of the ball. Also our safety Paul Calderon, he was a smart player and a leader on the defense. Our outside linebackers Cameron Beckmen and Lyle White will also be difficult to replace because of their sound fundamentals.
PrepNewMexico.com: What underclassman are you expecting to step up this year?
Our running back Daniel Fiseau should have a productive year after seeing some time on varsity last year. Our big man Rio Marez (6' 5''/ 350lbs) will be a force in the middle of the defense and will be tough to move.
PrepNewMexico.com: Have you gotten any offers as of yet?
As of right now I do not have any offers on the table, but I am hoping to hear from some junior colleges and division II schools pretty quick.
PrepNewMexico.com: If you had a top 5 schools as of right now who would it be?
Air Force- An established D-1 football program, I would sign in a heartbeat.
Highlands- If I
can't get any offers from D-1 schools I think
NMMI- Another college that recruits hard in state, good junior college.
On a side note these colleges are in no particular order, I would be happy with any of them.
PrepNewMexico.com: Have any schools come by to talk with you or have any schools requested to see your tape?
Not a lot of talk, but Air Force
is supposed to make a visit down to
PrepNewMexico.com: What is your greatest football memory?
My greatest memory was last year when we beat La Cueva in overtime, it was just a good game for 60 minutes plus and we happened to come out on top.
PrepNewMexico.com: What aspect of your game have you really worked on to get better for this upcoming season?
I am working out hard in the weight room and have put on 20 plus pounds since the end of the season. I am also running with some different coaches to pull up my speed. It is all going to pay off in the end.
PrepNewMexico.com: Name one teammate who has really improved since last season?
Cory Powell a receiver last year has work extremely hard and is the fastest kid on the team now, should start at outside linebacker.
PrepNewMexico.com: What is the best piece of advice you have ever gotten?
When I was young in YALF I was having trouble with my coaches so I turned to my older cousin Keith Richards. He told me to "just put a notch on my belt" and remember that they didn't believe in me. In the end I will prove them all wrong when I am playing college football and with no thanks to them. Those notches continue to add up and keep me working harder to reach my goal and prove anyone who couldn't think I could do it wrong.
