5A Top 10: #8 Alamogordo Tigers

Checking in at #8 for our preseason top 10 in the 5A ranks is the Alamogorodo Tigers. They have to replace the "Three Back Attack" but they return enough to be a factor.

#8 Alamogordo Tigers:  This team has to figure out how to replace a whole bunch of talent.  But they return enough talent from that squad to be pretty good this season.

2006 was a banner year for the Tigers.  They rode the legs of C.J. Oakley, Clay Griffen and Carlos DeLaCruz all the way to the state championship game.  Unfortunately for them they ran into Mayfield and came up short of their title.  All that talent has to be replaced which is a huge job.  Throw in the fact that former Head Coach Bruce Dollar has stepped down and now you have real questions with this squad.

New head man Tommy Standefer is taking over a very good program.  He knows that he has to replace three very talented runners but replacing talent at the high school level is what it's all about.  The good news is Alamogordo returns several big offensive lineman from last years team and they will probably ride those big boys all season.  Look for big seasons from Matt Cardiel (6'2 265) Nick Bright (6'2 275) and a handful of skill position kids.  They aren't household names now like the "Three Back Attack" of last season but they will make a name by the end of the season.
