Last Nights Top Performers

The stars were out in full force last night. Here's a look at several of the top players that had huge nights. If you know of players we should add, email us

Stars were out on Friday night.  Some of them are household names already but others are making a name for themselves.  Here is a quick look at some of the top performances from around the state last night and also from Thursday's night game.

Cibola kicker Tony Minerd kicked a 43 yard field goal to seal the victory over La Cueva.

Speaking of La Cueva, in a losing effort they found out they have two really special playmakers for the rest of the year.  Junior RB Gus Bowe rushed for 150 yards and 3 touchdowns on 28 carries.  Remember the name folks, freshman Ronnie Daniels was all over the field and showing his great speed.  He returned a kickoff 87 yards for a score, expect to hear great things about him in the future.

Eldorado QB Anthony Lopez rushed for 249 yards on 49 carries in a 20-0 win over Carlsbad.

Albuquerque's Aaron Gunning returned an interception 32 yards for a score in a loss to Piedra Vista.

Speaking of Piedra Vista, signal caller Paul Shay rushed for 97 yards and 3 scores he also threw for 168 yards in a 26-14 win over Albuquerque.

op ranked Mayfield had a tough preseason opener taking on #3 Clovis.  But the Trojans do what they normally do, win.  They beat the Wildcats 38-20 running their win streak to 28 straight games.  Do it all Matthew Sandoval ran for 138 yards, threw for 114 yards and also kicked a 27 yard field goal.  Nathan Enriquez had 173 total yards of offense and two touchdowns.  First time starting runningback Jacob Ceniceros also had two touchdowns.

Top rated QB Landry Jones from Artesia appears to be in midseason form already throwing for 247 yards and an amazing 5 touchdowns in a 44-0 win over Lovington.

Thanks to all who called or emailed me with the highlights.  It's football season and we all love it.
