Game Preview: Gallup vs. Silver

Gallup has been one of the surprise teams to start the season. They have a big test this week against a talented Silver team.

Gallup vs. Silver

Gallup has been one of the surprise teams on the young season jumping out to a 3-0 start.  Silver has lots of talent but has struggled out of the gate and is currently standing at 1-2 on the year.  One team is out to prove they are the real deal, while the other is trying to get some of the wrinkles ironed out.

Gallup is a team that several people thought had a chance to be a pretty good team this season.  They have proved those people to be right and have been impressive during the first three weeks of the year.  With wins over Farmington, Grants and Albuquerque to start the year Gallup is ready to prove just how good they are.  The schedule gets harder over the next couple of weeks with games against Silver, Aztec and Sandia so we will know how good this team is in a hurry.  Gallup is led offensively by QB Brandon Salazar and also by RB Damon Scerriffee, both have been solid all year.  They need to keep playing well to help move them to 4-0 on the season.

Silver has been a little bit of a mystery so far this year.  Everyone had this team ranked in their top 10 preseason polls.  But they struggled during week one in a 9-6 win over Cobre, than they got beat up in week two by Bel Air and were worked by Onate last week 34-14.  This team has talent and enough talent to get this season turned around in a hurry.  RB Luke Villalba QB Gabe Britton are as talented as anyone in the state, but they are still looking for that consistency teams need.

Gallup has been very good thus far.  If they get caught looking ahead to the tough teams the play in the next couple of weeks Silver has the talent to not only make this close but to beat Gallup straight up.  I'll take Gallup in a close one 28-21.
