15 To Watch in 2008: Lane Ward

Lane Ward LB from Clovis had an amazing season in 2007 collecting more than 100 total tackles. That season has now made him a household name and he is one of our 15 players to watch in 2008.

Lane Ward – LB Clovis

When it comes to top notch programs Clovis HS in New Mexico is as good as program in the state. You can't have a good program year in and year out if you don't have tough hard nosed type kids. This past season so much attention was paid to offensive stars like Jordan Mendoza and Manuel Robles and with good reason. They were solid seniors that will be hard to replace. But one junior who is ready to be that next leader for the Wildcats is

LB Lane Ward
. Ward is another player in our 15 to watch for 2008.

This past season Ward was really a man among boys on the football field. He was one of the leaders in the state in total tackles collecting that total in 13 games. With that amazing total Ward finished as one of the top tacklers not only in the state but also in the nation. In the nation Ward ranks as having one of the top overall statistical years across the land. Ward also showed that he is consistent when it comes to making plays, having recorded double digit tackles in 8 out of 13 games. He also performed well against the better teams in the state collecting 16 tackles against both Goddard and Hobbs, he also had big nights against Mayfield, La Cueva and Rio Rancho collecting more than 10 tackles in those games as well. After his amazing season in 2007 it's easy to see that he will be considered one of the top linebackers in the state next season.

From a recruiting standpoint, Ward will have to answer questions about his size. Right now he checks in at 5'11 175, the height isn't so much the issue compared to the weight. Lots of linebackers playing D1 football are 5'11 but most of them are in the 215 to 225 range with lots of speed. Ward is a heck of player on the field and which ever school is smart enough to give him a chance will not be sorry.

We recently had the chance to interview Mr. Ward and will have that interview up later in the week.
