Recruiting Update: Zach Drapeau

Rio Rancho's Zach Drapeau is one of the top two LB's in New Mexico next season along with Artesia's Dallas Bollema. Drapeau checks in to let us in on, which schools are talking to him and also his plans for this summer. Zach will be out and about hoping to impress a college enought to land a scholarship offer.

Over the past couple of weeks so much of the content produced on this site has been dedicated to the recruiting aspect of things.  We have seen offers come to Rio Mares, James Hall and Shane Smith, while the rest of the state is still waiting to hear from a school.  One of the top players in New Mexico next season will be Rio Rancho LB Zach Drapeau.  We introduced the state to Zach a few months back and also named him as one of our 15 players to watch this season.  Zach as well as Artesia LB Dallas Bollema figure to be the top two LB prospects in New Mexico.  Zach is the bigger of the two checking in at 6'2 and 220 pounds, while Bollema looks a little more athletic but is in the 6'1 200 pound range.  To be honest they are both really good players that project at different positions, Drapeau more of a true middle and Bollema more toward a weakside LB type.

Drapeau is still waiting his first offer but he is still working hard in hopes of a school taking a shot at him.  So we contacted Zach to see how things were going and what kind of plans he might be having for this summer.  According to Zach's father, "Right now Zach stands 6'2 and 220 and he is working to get to 225 without sacrificing his speed."  According to his father Zach is in constant communication with the University of Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State and Texas Tech.  Zach will also be attending the camps at New Mexico on the 12th and also the New Mexico State camp on the 19th.

It's easy to see why coaches have been in contact with Zach, he has been one of the top LB's in New Mexico the past two seasons.  In 2007 Drapeau totaled 147 total tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions, and 1 of those interceptions was returned for a touchdown.  With good LB size at 6'2 220 and with decent speed, running in the 4.8 range things might start to pick up soon.  Zach is also a great student carrying a 3.7 total GPA.

We will bring you more with Zach as the season progresses and stay tuned to to follow along with the recruitment of Mr. Drapeau all season long.  We are hoping to get a copy of Zach's DVD highlight which we will post as soon as it becomes available.
