Game Preview: Rio Rancho vs. Cibola

Troy Harris has been one of the most explosive players in the state this season. He leads his Rio Rancho squad against a Cibola squad that is better than they record indicates.

Rio Rancho vs. Cibola
In the beginning of the season this game was circled for fans of prep football in New Mexico.  Both Rio Rancho and Cibola were highly ranked and thought of as possible spoilers in the title chase.

Rio Rancho has been very good at times and has left lots to be desired at others.  They are an explosive offense with senior RB Troy Harris leading the way.  On the season he has rushed for well over 1300 yards and is nearing the 1700 yard mark all purpose. His biggest strength is his ability to start and stop and also his change of direction speed.  If Harris is going to have a big night the Rio Rancho defense will have to keep the Cibola offense off the field.  Hayden Schaap has been good as the starting QB for Cibola but he will have to be great if Cibola is to pull this one off.

Defensively, Rio Rancho got a big shot in the arm a few weeks ago with senior LB Zach Drapeau returned for injury.  He is a none stop high motor type of guy that will make plays all over the field.  If Rancho can limit the big play abilities of the Cibola offense they will figure out a way to win this one.

Could be a very interesting game, but I'm just not sure if Cibola is healthy enough to play with the Rams at this point in the season.  Look for Cibola to try and grind it out on the ground and keep it close.  I'll take Rio Rancho 34 Cibola 20.
