Las Cruces 42 Manzano 33

Las Cruces 42 Manzano 33
The Bulldogs beat Manzano that sets up a huge game next weekend against 3 time defending champion and district rival Mayfield for a shot to play for the state title.

Going into the game we felt this could end up being closer than most felt it would be.  Manzano is very well coached and always play well in big games.  They also feature a great offense that has what it takes to score points regardless of who they play against.  Junior RB Jordan Llamas did not disappoint with his performance, rushing for 2 touchdowns in a losing effort.  As well as Manzano played, all the credit needs to go to Las Cruces.

Cruces came out and set a tone that the game would be played at all night.  Big time players play better in big time games.  That's a common saying among football fans all over the country.  There is so much truth to that statement; big players make big plays in big games.  If that's true, it's easy to see why so much respect is given to both Dante Caro and James Hall Jr.  Caro threw for 140 yards and a touchdown; he also ran for 3 more touchdowns for good measure.  He's s true dual threat QB that can hurt you with his arms or legs, and he did that on Friday night.  James Hall Jr., had another strong night.  He rushed for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns he did all of this on just 24 carries.  As long as these two young men stay healthy the Bulldogs will be hard to stop.  The defense of Las Cruces gave up some points, put they played well when needed, Mike Bernal led the way with 2 ½ sacks on the evening.

This was a huge win for Las Cruces, because it's the second time they beat Manzano this season.  They say it's hard to beat a good team twice and that is so true.  But, Las Cruces was able to rise to the occasion and take care of Manzano.  They will have to rise up again next week to beat Mayfield and play for that state title they so desperately want.
