Goddard is the king of 4A football

Goddard has won the 4A state title. They used their dynamic run game and tough hard nosed defense to beat Aztec.

Goddard is the 4A champs

What a year for Goddard.  For the past couple of seasons, they have been very good but also run into a great team along the way.  The last few years, that great team was Artesia, who also happens to be their biggest rival.  But this year, they left no doubt as to who was the best team in 4A football.  Not only winning the state title but also beating Artesia twice and in all honesty they did it in convincing fashion, dominating both games.

So much can be said of the Rockets.  In today's day and age of spread offenses and finesse style football, Goddard is a throw back to the old school.  When you watch them play you can tell that they go into the season with two goals in mind.  Goal one: Run the football.  Goal two: Stop the run.  I don't care what level of football you are talking about.  If you can run the football and stop the run you will have a chance in every game that you are in.  That has been proven over and over again.  While it is not flashy or doesn't earn style points, it is effective and gives the Rockets a real sense and identity.

With that being said, credit also needs to go to Aztec for a tremendous season.  They went the entire regular season unbeaten and climbed in the rankings to our #1 spot after week 7.  We got a ton of flack for ranking them that high, but their impressive run in the playoffs and a great showing in the title game, proved to the rest of the state that they to are a great football team.

Hats off the coaching staff of both teams for a job well done, and a standing ovation to everyone associated with 4A football.  Goddard is now the champ and will have that target on their chest.
