With three offers, Las Cruces Onate linebacker Zach Daugherty is the top recruit for the class of 2010 in New Mexico. New Mexico State, New Mexico, San Diego State are all on board and now a fourth offer may be coming from UTEP. Daugherty informs PrepNewMexico that he camped last week in El Paso and things went very well. According to Daugherty UTEP is, "really interested and will make a decision after their camp circuit."
Regarding UTEP, Daugherty has communicated the most with Miner defensive coordinator Osia Lewis. Speaking of UTEP and the potential of playing at the school which is about 45 minutes from Daugherty's home, Zach said, "I like their campus and the coaches are real cool."
Only mid June, Daugherty has already had a busy offseason. In May he kicked off his hectic football schedule as he competed at the Scout.com Combine in Phoenix, Arizona. Now with the UTEP camp over, Daugherty will make multiple trips north as he attends a one day camp at the University of New Mexico, competes at a combine in Albuquerque and heads to Boulder, Colorado for another combine.
Regarding his Onate squad Daugherty says the team looks, "real good, we have started the first practices this summer and there has been no drop off since the end of school." Anchored by Daugherty, Onate returns one of the top defensive front seven in New Mexico. Defensive tackle John Cachora and defensive end Zach Hernandez will be joined up front by big and talented junior defensive end Tyler Gilman.
