Big Man From NYC Ready For Season To Start

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game of senior big man prospect Marcus Hopper of Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York ...

Marcus Hopper, the 6-foot-9, 240-pounder from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, told us he spent a lot of time working on his individual moves and quickness near the basket over the summer. With practice nearby, he's looking to have a big season.

Marcus played well enough to land some division one college basketball interest. He's already said he plans on taking an official visit to Siena.

Hopper previously took an official campus trip to the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. "I saw more of the school and learned more about the academics and basketball program," he said. "I had a very good time."

PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF MARCUS HOPPER:

Marcus is a player worth watching this spring and summer on the AAU circuit due to his physical frame and the willingness to work hard. His head coach at Holy Cross, Paul Gilvary, feels that Hopper is going to make a solid division one player because he picks up things quickly and uses them in game action.

HOLY CROSS HEAD COACH PAUL GILVARY'S THOUGHTS ON MARCUS HOPPER'S BASKETBALL CHANCES:

"Marcus has a nice frame. He works hard. He knows what he has to do to become a better player. He's a good listener. He's smart and picks up things. So this is great for him in the future.

"He's very coachable, likeable. You want him to succeed because he has such a desire to be a better player. He'll get there. He'll work at making the improvements."

HIS JUNIOR SEASON:

Hopper averaged around a double/double in points and rebounds last year.
