Area Big Man Landing Some D-1 Interest

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game of Holy Cross High School big man senior prospect Marcus Hopper, who is hoping to produce a great final season for Paul Gilvary's basketball program ...

Marcus Hopper, the 6-foot-9, 240-pounder from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, said he is enjoying the early practices his team has undergone over the past few days. Hopper seems to be thriving on the hard work, making progress in several parts of his individual game.

Hopper will be needed to have a huge senior season for Paul Gilvary's basketball program for Holy Cross to be successful this season in the New York City Catholic League.

AREAS OF FOCUS:

Marcus has spent a lot of time working on his inside game, his offensive moves near the basket, improving his foot movement.

PREVIOUS EVALUATION OF MARCUS HOPPER:

Marcus is a player worth watching this spring and summer on the AAU circuit due to his physical frame and the willingness to work hard. His head coach at Holy Cross, Paul Gilvary, feels that Hopper is going to make a solid division one player because he picks up things quickly and uses them in game action.

HOLY CROSS HEAD COACH PAUL GILVARY'S THOUGHTS ON MARCUS HOPPER'S BASKETBALL CHANCES:

"Marcus has a nice frame. He works hard. He knows what he has to do to become a better player. He's a good listener. He's smart and picks up things. So this is great for him in the future.

"He's very coachable, likeable. You want him to succeed because he has such a desire to be a better player. He'll get there. He'll work at making the improvements."

SCHOOLS OF INTEREST: Siena, UMBC HIS JUNIOR SEASON:

Hopper averaged around a double/double in points and rebounds last year.
