Holy Cross Senior Having Wonderful Season

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game and athletic career of Holy Cross High School senior Evan Conti, who has had a terrific senior season for his basketball team ...

Evan Conti, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound small forward/shooting guard from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, continues to produce a consistent season for head coahc Paul Gilvary's highly regarded basketball team.

Conti is averaging 18 points 10 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game so far this season.

A member of the 1,000 point club, he is the eight person in the rich tradition of Holy Cross boy's basketball to reach such a mark.

He is also over 550 rebounds in his terrific career for Gilvary's program.

"The new schools that have called and are interested now are UMBC, Tulane, and St. Francis of Pennsylvania," he said.

Evan is awaiting on offers.

He is working very hard on making improvements in his individual game. "I have improved the last couple of games with my three-point shooting and my defense," he said.

He is a leader, a senior who is counted on at both ends of the court to make the key plays. Currently, Conti is averaging almost 17 points a game and recording nearly 10 rebounds per contest.

He is an unselfish player too, finding open teammates usually around four to five times a game for baskets.

Conti also has interest from Hartford, Kent State, New Hampshire, Fairfield, and Holy Cross College.

An injury last season hurt Conti's chances of drawing more recruiting interest early in his recruiting process. "I had a lot more interest last year but I was out for three months in the AAU season with a broken ankle and a lot of those schools stopped recruiting me."

Evan plays AAU basketball for the Rising Stars under head coach Danny Gimple.
