New York City Senior Having Solid Year

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game and gives us a season progress look at senior guard/forward Evan Conti of Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York ...

Evan Conti, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound small forward/shooting guard from Holy Cross High School in Flushing, New York, told us he felt the effects of the flu but was more than happy to applaud his teammates for picking up the slack in a big quarterfinal victory over St. Francis Prep last night.

Holy Cross advanced to the semifinals for a game to be played this Wednesday at St. John's University in Queens.

Conti's great season has led to more division one programs to get involved in his recruiting process. "LIU and Marist are now interested," he said.

Conti is averaging nearly 18 points per game and 10 rebounds. A member of the 1,000 point club, Conti has surpassed 550 rebounds for his great Holy Cross career.

Evan previously told us he had recruiting interest from UMBC, Tulane, Hartford, Kent State, New Hampshire, Fairfield, Holy Cross College, and St. Francis of Pennsylvania.

He is a leader, a senior who is counted on at both ends of the court to make the key plays. He makes subtle contributions too, boxing out his man, finding open teammates for easier shots.

An injury last season hurt Conti's chances of drawing more recruiting interest early in his recruiting process. "I had a lot more interest last year but I was out for three months in the AAU season with a broken ankle and a lot of those schools stopped recruiting me."

Evan plays AAU basketball for the Rising Stars under head coach Danny Gimple.
