Cardozo Prospect Has Some Division One Looks

Reporter Brian Towey profiles the individual game and recruiting process of Cardozo High School senior prospect Shelton Mickell, who is coming off a very successful season for head coach Ron Naclerio ...

Shelton Mickell, a 6-foot-1, 165-pound shooting guard/combo guard and senior from Benjamin Cardozo High School in Bayside, N.Y., is a steady performer who is still available.

"He is still figuring things out," said Cardozo coach Ron Naclerio. "College of Charleston is interested. Marist is coming in and they're going to offer. St. Francis of Loretto (Pa.) may offer."

Mickell shoots it consistently, plays with poise, and can be counted on to make shots in key situations. He averaged 13.4 points and 4.3 assists this season for Cardozo, which advanced to the PSAL Class AA semifinals and finished with a 28-3 record.

Naclerio said that highly-respected scout Tom Konchalski, who is based in Queens, New York, spoke glowingly of Mickell in his latest report.

"Konchalski said that he's really improved," said Naclerio. "He said that he's physically tougher and that he can do one thing that few players in New York City can do: he can shoot it."
