Cardozo Forward Should Have Fine D-1 Career

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game and future of solid forward Marquis Barnett, who will be playing division one college basketball nearby ...

Marquis Barnett, a 6-foot-7 1/2, 230-pound power forward/center from Cardozo High School in Bayside, New York, will join fellow New Yorker Evan Conti of Holy Cross at Quinnipiac next fall.

Barnett recently made his commitment and should have a fine career under head coach Tom Moore. Barnett made some tremendous progress under coach Ron Naclerio during the 2010-2011 campaign, especially during the latter part of the year.

"It was very encouraging to see him make progress during a key part of the season for us," said Naclerio previously.

HEAD COACH RON NACLERIO'S PREVIOUS THOUGHTS ON MARQUIS BARNETT'S INDIVIDUAL GAME AND REGULAR SEASON PROGRESS:

"He is much more confident this season. He has more post moves and is better defensively. He's been better offensively over the past couple of weeks. He is becoming more confident with the basketball in the low post."

MARQUIS BARNETT'S PREVIOUS RECRUITING INTEREST:

Quinnipiac, St. Francis of Pennsylvania and Marist were also of interest, according to Naclerio.

SEASON STATISTICS:

Barnett averaged seven points a game, 13 rebounds and seven blocks per contest during in the 2010-2011 season. He lifted his scoring average quite a bit over the final few weeks of the season.
