East Coast Senior Finishes Off Great Year

Reporter Mike Sullivan takes a look at the individual game and future of talented division one bound prospect Jerrell Wright, who will compete this evening in an all star game ...

Jerrell Wright, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward/center from Dobbins High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is coming off a solid season and was recently honored for it by being selected to compete in the Mary Kline Memorial All Star game. The event will be held this evening at The Pennington School in New Jersey. All proceeds go to this worthy cause, in memory of Alex Kline's (hoops scout guru) mother who passed away so young from cancer.

Wright is one of many talented players from the East Coast competing in this event. There will be a slam dunk contest before the all star game.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: Jerrell is a player Team Phenom coach Paul Gripper feels will make a fine division one college basketball player. After concluding a summer of fine play, Wright was especially impressive competing for the Mustafa Shakur team in the NIKE Chosen League 19 and under league. He produced 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to league his team to a victory over Jrue Holiday, 54-49, in the title game.

Jerrell started off his IS8 spring league season with some terrific games, including scoring 38 points against the Playaz Club of New Jersey.

Jerrell previously had offers also from Drexel and Temple. He also had received interest from West Virginia, Siena, and Massachusetts.

As a junior, he averaged close to 22 points a game, 14 rebounds and three blocks and matched those this season.

*Jerrell has given a commitment to the La Salle basketball program, according to the coaches in his AAU program, Hunting Park. "He's going to be a very good player on this level," said Gripper. "He works very hard and is improving each month."
