Straight Ahead For Talented Long Island Guard

Reporter Mike Sullivan provides a detailed look at the positives in the individual basketball game of lead guard Tavon Sledge from Long Island, New York...

Straight ahead. It's the only direction Tavon Sledge, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound lead guard from Half Hollow Hills West knows. And it worked quite well this past season as a senior.

Sledge is an aggressive guard, skillful in taking the ball to the basket against the big bodies near the rim. He helped his team go deep in the Long Island playoffs too this past year.

Sledge, who signed with Iowa State, has the ability to take over a game and score baskets at key moments during the game. He is a confident guard, unafraid of any situation.

What Sledge also does well is create scoring opportunities for his teammates with his relentless journeys to the rim.

Sledge is an exciting player, fun to watch, producing a few thrills every game. If he is able to mature in decision making, and add some consistency in at least a foul line jumper, Tavon will be quite an effective weapon on a high division one level.

Sledge will be an impact player, a productive one that will help his team win some basketball games.
