PLAYER PROFILE: Joey Gripper

HEIGHT: 6-foot-1

WEIGHT: 171 pounds

HIGH SCHOOL: Abington Friends High School in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania

HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH: Steve Chadwin

CLASS: Graduated from high school in 2011. Could be shifted to the class of 2012 since he does have an option of attending prep school for the 2011-2012 basketball season.

POSITIONS: Has competed effectively with at both the shooting guard/lead guard positions during the high school and AAU basketball seasons and tournaments.

AAU TEAM: Team Phenom out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

TOP GAMES FOR JOEY GRIPPER DURING THE SUMMER OF 2011:

Gripper scored 25 points in a first round game in the Platinum bracket in a basketball tournament held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Team Phenom lost, 77-72.

Previously, Joey produced 20 points to help his team, Jrue Holiday, upend Team Nate, in a Chosen Local League game held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Gripper also had three assists and a steal in the victory.

BIG GAMES FOR JOEY GRIPPER DURING THE 2010-2011 SEASON:

Joey was selected to the All tournament team (the 2011 D'onofrio All-Tournament Team) and was one of the featured players on his team.

Previously, Gripper scored 20 points, handed six assists and had six steals in the championship game of the Shakur Chosen League. His team, Jrue Holiday, lost 54-48, to the Shakur squad.

Gripper produced 16 points, handed out 11 assists and had three steals to help his AAU program, Team Phenom, claim a 77-57 victory over Smyma Stars in the Peach State Classic in Aiken, South Carolina.

** Joey scored 15 points and had two threes to help Team Phenom blast the Georgia Heat. Gripper followed up the solid effort with 22 points and eight assists in the Bigshot's Slam in South Carolina.

JOEY GRIPPER'S TOP GAMES DURING THE 2010-2011 REGULAR SEASON AND PLAYOFFS:

Gripper scored 14 points in a tough loss to Friends Central in a playoff battle.

Previously, Joey scored 10 points, handed out five assists and had four steals to help his team nail down a 48-42 victory over Westtown.

Gripper averaged nearly 13 points per game this season.

In addition, Joey scored 16 points to lead his team past Shipley, 60-40. Gripper also scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds, handed out five assists and had three steals to help AFS defeat Trenton Catholic High School.

Joey also scored 20 points and dished out eight assists to help AFS knock off a very talent rich Life Center team, 85-75.

RECRUITING:

Manhattan and Quinnipiac have pursued Gripper the hardest. Quinnipiac coach Tom Moore has watched Gripper play numerous times during the summer of 2011.
