HAMPTON, Va. – If you sit in the same seat for 5 ½ hours, chat up a few players and keep your ears pinned, you're bound to come up with some recruiting scuttlebutt. Here's a brief rundown of some of the things we learned today.

HOT NEWS & NOTES

Brandan Wright lists Duke, North Carolina and Kentucky as his top three schools. Coach K was in the house Thursday checking on him. Bruce Pearl repped Tennessee on Wednesday and would love to crack onto his list but that's going to be tough. Wake Forest, Kansas and Georgia Tech are the second tier schools right now. An interesting side note was that Wright believed UT was not going to be able to keep Tyler Smith signed up for next year. …

Brian Carlwell said that Illinois, Florida State, Valparaiso, Michigan State, Arizona and Purdue were showing interest. They should as he's already posted a qualifying ACT score. … Scout.com's No. 11 junior Curtis Kelly was visited by the head coaches of St. John's and Georgia Tech this week. …

BWSL sophomore Chris Wright has a top three of Duke, Maryland and N.C. State. He feels like the Pack and Terps have laid out an offer for him but understands he's just a sophomore and it's early in the process. Plus, after an April 22nd weekend tournament he'll make an unofficial visit to Texas. …

Duke Crews, a power forward, said Virginia Tech and Xavier came to see him this week. Add in Georgetown and Georgia Tech and you've got a nice early list for one of Friday's top performers. … Could Scott Reynolds pull the trigger next week? He alluded to it then backed off saying he'd commit when the time was right. Reynolds kept with his mantra that Oklahoma leads and the Sooners were up for a visit this week. N.C. State, according to Reynolds, was set to come but could not make it in and Connecticut did a visit late in the week. …

Lasers forward Xavier Keeling likes Auburn, Alabama and Kansas. He says Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn have offered and is also hearing from Georgia Tech, Miami, Georgia and N.C. State. … Darrin Govens has St. Joe's, Illinois, Florida State and Wake Forest interested in his game. …

Here's a new name: Howard Crawford. The 6-foot-7 Alabama Lasers power forward has Memphis, UAB and Kansas State on his early list. …

NY Gauchos guard Edgar Sosa started slowly but helped the Gauchos put a dent in Ferrari. Sosa said that N.C. State and Louisville dropped by this week to see him. ...

We heard some scuttlebutt about the NBA 20-year old rule Friday night. Apparently the two sides are further apart than some think on the issues and word is that getting a 20-year old age limit passed seems unlikely. …

Derrick Rose was on Ferrari's roster but it appears that he's no longer running with the squad. … NJ All-Stars were without Jeff Robinson who is injured and Brian Zoubek didn't make the trip after having surgery Friday to clean out some scar tissue in his elbow. …

Here's one for you. The Baltimore Sun is reporting that Bishop O'Connell senior forward David Neal committed to Maryland Thursday night. …

SCOUT'S SEAT

Xavier Keeling and Curtis Kelly, a pair of forwards, were among the best passers we watched all day long. … Speaking of Kelly, he shoots the ball from the back of his palm and loses a little control of it sometimes. He's a minor adjustment away from an even higher FG percentage. … Howard Crawford of the Lasers is a power forward worth monitoring throughout the spring. His brother hooped at Alabama. …

Lewis Witcher of BWSL is one of many power forwards that has HM potential that gets rotated in and out of the lineup. One BWSL big we wanted to see was Karolis Petrukonis but he didn't get off the Boo bench in the first game. … Eric Hayes, the BWSL point man, handled the ball well and made excellent decisions. …

Darian McKinstry of Ferrari was the best defensive guard we watched all day long. … Hillary Haley of the D.C. Blue Devils got his running and slashing game going in the nightcap.
