Two Metro Players in California

A couple New York City area players are following that age-old advice this weekend, i.e., "Go West, young man."

Sources have told the Insiders Report that Eugene Harvey joined Daye Kaba this weekend at Southern Cal. (Earlier report on Kaba)

Harvey, 5-foot-11, 165 pound senior point guard from St. Benedict's in Newark, New Jersey, previously trekked to Mississippi State and Pittsburgh last month. Among the other programs recruiting Harvey include UConn, Seton Hall, Providence, Miami (FL) and Florida.

Kaba, the 6-foot-4, 190 pound shooting guard/combo guard from Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, is orginally from France. Other schools on his list include Boston College, Providence and Old Dominion.

    Did You Know?:
It wasn't only Horace Greeley who offered destination advice quoted in the opening parargraph.

The New York newspaperman's quote was, "Go West, young man, and grow up with this country" in Hints Toward Reform, which was first published in 1851. The book was about land reform and other progressive issues.

John L.B. Soule, wrote in an 1851 editorial in the Terre Haute Express (Ind.) -- "Go West, young man, go West!"

Simpler and what I thought was the Greeley quote. - D.Conroy
