SchoolSports Basketball Top 25

In this week's SchoolSports.com National Top 25, Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) lost for only the second time this season and dropped from No. 6 to No. 16 in the rankings. One the three New York City area schools on the list moved up; the other two held their places.

Rankings as of Jan. 23, 2006

1. Lawrence North (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (14-0) *1
Senior center Greg Oden had 33 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks and three assists as Lawrence North defeated North Central, 78-59, in a game that was nationally televised on ESPN2.

2. Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) – (27-0) *2
Oak Hill cruised past Franklin County, 92-52, in the Member One/Time Technologies Classic. Senior point guard Tywon Lawson led the Warriors with a game-high 19 points.

3. North College Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (15-0) *3
Junior guard O.J. Mayo scored a game-high 18 points and junior center Keenen Ellis added 14 points in the Trojans' 65-57 win over South Laurel (Ky.).

4. DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) – (18-0) *4
Junior guard Austin Freeman had a team-high 15 points as the Stags defeated Good Counsel, 85-53. Freeman is rated the nation's No. 43 junior recruit by SchoolSports.com.

5. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (25-0) *5
Senior guard Brandon Dison scored 18 points as the Mustangs crushed Spring, 86-42.

6. McKinley (Canton, Ohio) – (11-2) *7
Senior forward and Michigan State recruit Raymar Morgan had 19 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 79-48 win over Lake.

7. Hamilton (Memphis, Tenn.) – (18-0) *8
Jay Watkins scored 26 points and Jeremy Williams added 21 as Hamilton defeated East, 80-53.

8. Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) – (17-1) *9
The Wildcats scored more than 90 points in wins over Pope (95-50) and Marietta (93-61).

9. Artesia (Lakewood, Calif.) – (19-1) *10
Artesia earned three wins last week, including a convincing 64-40 victory over Taft in which junior forward James Harden scored 14 points.

10. Fairfax (Los Angeles, Calif.) – (15-2) *11
Senior forward Jerren Shipp had 17 points and junior forward Chace Stanback added 16 as Fairfax upended Compton Centennial, 63-51, in the California Hoops Challenge. Fairfax also picked up a 58-54 win over rival Westchester. Junior guard Ja'Shon Hampton led the Lions with 18 points.

11. Glenbrook North (Northbrook, Ill.) – (18-1) *12
Senior shooting guard and Duke recruit Jon Scheyer had 33 points, six rebounds, four assists in three steals to lead North to a 57-46 win over rival Glenbrook South.

12. DeSoto (DeSoto, Texas) – (26-0) *13
Senior guard Jermaine Beal scored a game-high 26 points as DeSoto defeated Cedar Hill, 74-56.

13. Vashon (St. Louis, Mo.) – (16-1) *14
The Wolverines cruised past V&P Arts, 86-45. Junior forward Leon Powell led four players in double figures with 13 points.

14. Mount St. Joseph (Baltimore, Md.) – (23-0) *15
Dejuan Goodwin hit 12 free throws en route to a game-high 21 points in the Gaels' 60-51 victory over St. Frances.

15. Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.) – (15-1) *16
Sophomore guard Erving Walker scored 16 points in the Royals' defeated St. Francis Prep, 62-47. Walker is rated the nation's No. 19 sophomore recruit by SchoolSports.com.

16. Brentwood Academy (Brentwood, Tenn.) – (20-2) *6
Brentwood was upset by Whites Creek, 66-65. Senior forward Brandan Wright scored 29 points in the loss. Brentwood rebounded to defeat Ensworth School, 83-41, as Wright had 16 points and senior guard Joshua Bone added 15 points. Brentwood drops to No. 16 because Whites Creek is an unranked team.

17. Palo Verde (Las Vegas, Nev.) – (21-0) *17
Senior guard P'Allen Stinnett had 23 points, eight rebounds and two blocks to lead Palo Verde past Cheyenne, 83-54.

18. St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.) – (19-1) – *18
Senior forward Lance Thomas had 34 points and 21 rebounds and senior point guard Eugene Harvey hit the game-winning jumper in overtime to lift the Gray Bees to a 76-74 win over Blue Ridge in the Virginia Slam Fest in Richmond, Va. Harvey added 13 points in a 51-46 win over Linden in the Dan Finn Classic.

19. Newton North (Newton, Mass.) – (10-0) *19
Senior guard Anthony Gurley had 28 points and 12 rebounds and senior guard Corey Lowe scored 23 points as the Tigers remained undefeated with a 75-55 win over Newton North.

20. St. Anthony (Jersey City, N.J.) – (14-1) *20
Junior guard Miles Beatty had 16 points to help St. Anthony to an 82-43 win over Cardinal McCarrick.

21. Montrose Christian (Rockville, Md.) – (11-2) *21
Senior guard and Maryland recruit Greivis Vasquez had a triple-double with 16 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds and added six steals in a 128-31 win over Young America Works. Vasquez is rated the nation's No. 78 senior recruit by SchoolSports.com.

22. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) – (20-2) *22
The Monarchs bounced back from their loss to No. 19 St. Anthony last week by notching two victories this week, including a 112-46 drubbing of Cathedral City.

23. Seagoville (Dallas, Texas) – (23-1) *23
Senior guard Donald Sloan poured in 25 points as Seagoville crushed Adamson, 88-37. Sloan is rated the nation's No. 88 senior recruit by SchoolSports.com.

24. Marshall (Chicago, Ill.) – (18-1) *24
Senior Patrick Beverley scored 27 points to lead Marshall to an 80-71 win over Manley.

25. Kingwood (Kingwood, Texas) – (24-3) *25
Junior Mike Singletary had a game-high 14 points in Kingwood's 80-44 win over Baytown Sterling. Singletary is rated the nation's No. 42 junior recruit by SchoolSports.com.
