St. John's Adds Key JUCO Guard

The Red Storm concluded its recruiting for the class of 2006 ...

Avery Patterson, a 6-4 sophomore shooting guard from Iowa Western Junior College in Iowa, made a commitment to St. John's University.

Reporter Russ Blake was the first to report about Patterson's interest in St. John's when Blake attended a JUCO event in Hutchinson, Kansas. Avery is a skilled player who has the ability to drop down jumpers.

He helped Iowa Western in its playoff game by recording 24 points (9/18 FGs, 5/12 treys). He also was a key spring recruiting target for Wyoming and Miami of Florida.

St. John's also added guard Derwin Kitchen, who initially committed to Florida two seasons ago.
