Metro Hawks Stumble At The Peach Jam

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The Metro Hawks turned the ball over twice and couldn't corral a huge defensive rebound in the final minute on Wednesday night, dropping a 68-66 decision to Team Melo at the Nike Peach Jam ...

Trailing 67-66, the Metro Hawks had a chance to hold the ball for the last shot, but Michael Coburn turned the ball over in the deep corner. The Hawks fouled Team Melo's impressive 6-4 rising junior wing Sean Mosley, who converted one of two free throws with 26.2 seconds left to push the lead to a deuce.

Given a second chance to either send the game into overtime or win it in regulation, the Metro Hawks again coughed the basketball up. This time, 6-6 senior forward Hickman Simmons turned the ball over trying to execute a dribble hand-off near the top of the key.

Mosley stepped to the foul line and missed a pair with 3.4 seconds left, giving the Hawks yet another chance to make something happen. However, Team Melo's point guard Jeremy Robinson snuck across the baseline and corralled the rebound, dribbling the clock out and dropping the Metro Hawks to 1-1 in Pool C play.

Devin Ebanks topped the Hawks with 21 points and six rebounds, while Jamine "Greedy" Peterson chipped in 15 points. Despite his costly late turnover, Coburn fashioned a solid game with eight points and 10 assists.
