List Narrows For New York City Guard

Scout.com reporter Mike Sullivan of the High School New York/New Jersey website had a chance to research some more information regarding one of the few remaining unsigned guards in the 2006 class ....

The window of opportunity is closing for New York City guard Vernon Teel. According to New York Panthers program director, Gary Charles, Teel has to make a decision soon as school begins across the country.

Teel, 6-foot-2, is a North To South guard with the ability to score against bigger bodies inside the paint. "Something has to be done soon," Charles said. "I hope Vernon can get into a four year college and move forward."

Vernon, at one time in the recruiting process, seemed to be heading to South Alabama. The door of opportunity appears to have closed there. "School has already started there," Charles said. "So I don't think he is going there."

Awaiting word from the NCAA Clearinghouse tests one's patience. It is in this case too. Right now, two schools have a chance to land Teel.

"LIU and St. Francis are being considered," Charles said. "I don't know where he will end up but those are the schools left."

Charles hopes there can be a conclusion to this by next week for Teel, who played this past season at Laurinburg Prep.
