Time Ticks Away For 2006 Recruit

Scout.com reporter Mike Sullivan of the High School New York/New Jersey website continues to keep an eye on one of the few remaining unsigned players in the 2006 class. But time is running out for a decision ...

It's decision time. According to New York Panthers program director, Gary Charles, guard Vernon Teel is likely to have a destination in the next couple of days.

Teel, 6-foot-2, is a guard who can score on drives or in transition. He is a very capable player in the offensive category for a division one program. Charles didn't want to go on record about an eventual decision or destination. But he said that something should be done this week.

At one time in the recruiting process, it seemed that Teel might end up at South Alabama. However, a delay in receiving his transcript from the Laurinburg program made it necessary for Teel to change direction.

Awaiting word from the NCAA Clearinghouse also is a chore. According to sources close to Teel, Long Island University would be the choice if Vernon can get through the Clearinghouse.

St. Francis of New York had been previously mentioned by Charles as a school of interest in our last interview.
