Lamont Jones: Still Open

Reporter Mike Sullivan spent some time interviewing sophomore guard Lamont Jones, who plans on trying to help Rice High School to another CHSAA title this season

There's plenty of time left for Lamont Jones to make a college decision. Despite plenty of high division one interest and some offers, Jones said he is going to take his time.

"I am young and only a sophomore," Lamont said. "I need more time to think about where I will go to college."

Jones, a 5-11, 165-pound guard who can both distribute and score, indicated that speculation about him ready to make a decision aren't accurate.

"I really like Louisville, St. John's, Fordham, Rutgers, Virginia Tech...," said Lamont. "I am pretty much open. It's early for me. I have some time to think about it. I don't want to make a decision too early."

A member of the 2009 class, Jones had a solid summer and attracted some major offers. "Louisville offered me," Jones said. "They have a great program and school and a great coach."

For now though, Jones will wait a little longer. "I worked hard on my shooting," he said. "I thought I really made progress in that part of my game. I want to continue to do that."
