Manhattan is on the board in the class of 2007.

Staying true to form, first-year head coach Barry Rohrssen stayed close to his roots in targeting 6-foot-8 center Alanzo George of Samuel Tilden High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. The developing big man gave a verbal pledge to attend the MAAC program last week.

"For one thing, the coaching staff has a lot of experience," said George. "And I liked the campus a lot when I went to go see it. The teachers, too."

George, a native of the Caribbean Island of St. Vincent, had drawn interest from Akron, St. John's, and Fordham.

A lengthy, fundamentally sound post player who runs the floor well, George averaged 15.7 points and 20.1 rebounds as a junior at Tilden, out of the Brooklyn PSAL, for Coach Eric "Rock" Eisenberg.

"The coaching staff at Manhattan enjoyed watching me play this summer," said George. "I work hard, rebound, and sprint the floor well for a big man."

George was originally slated to attend St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Connecticut, this fall, but the opportunity fell through.

Alanzo travelled with Paul "Doc" Nicelli's Madison Student-Athletes on the AAU circuit this summer. He was also a camper at the second session of Eastern Invitational.
