Cardozo Division One Prospect Is Open

Scout.com's East Coast recruiting expert Mike Sullivan spoke to Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio about one of his division one prospects ...

Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio knows there are high expectations for his team's chances of winning a PSAL championship. "You need a lot of luck and timing," Naclerio said. "All the right pieces have to fall into place, including the kids having their best games at the right time."

There's plenty of talent on the Cardozo roster. Among the players to watch this winter is 6-foot-6 swingman James Southerland, who has already peaked many division one programs' interest.

"Many schools have already come to watch him workout," Naclerio said. "If he gets stronger, his game will be more consistent. I expect that to happen."

The schools in the New York area have already expressed early interest, including Seton Hall, Rutgers, and St. John's. Southerland will need a big junior year and follow it up next summer with some great play to reach the highest of division one interest.

"He can do it," Naclerio said. "He's open right now, thinking about some schools."

Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Virginia and Louisville were also mentioned by Naclerio too as being of interest to Southerland.

"I know a lot is expected," he said. "James is one player we are counting on."
