New Yorker Sparkles When It Counts At IS8

Reporter Mike Sullivan came away impressed with New Yorker Corey Fisher's performance ...

Villanova, under head coach Jay Wright and his assistants, have done a very effective job in recruiting some of the top guard talent from the New York area. It was one of the reasons why St. Patrick High School guard Corey Fisher decided to make an early verbal commitment to Wright in the spring of this year.

Fisher's ability to score from anywhere on the court made him an attractive recruit to many high division one college basketball programs, including Villanova.

The 6-foot lead guard demonstrated this Fall at IS8 that he is going to be an impact player at Villanova. "I just have to work hard," Fisher said after he helped his team win a semifinal game against the Knights.

Fisher played for the JR All Stars and as reported by Dave Telep on the Scouthoops.com site, he claimed the MVP award too as his team won the championship.

There was some talk about Fisher gaining too much weight. But it didn't appear that this was any problem when watching him compete over the past couple of weeks. He looked energetic and agile. And he produced gobs of points too. He scored 17 points in the semifinal win against the Knights (Sylven Landesberg's team).

"I went to Villanova because the way they use their guards," Fisher said.

Another good one is coming Jay Wright's way next season.
