Nicknamed "Buddha," Fields has progressed nicely at Albany Academy in upstate New York during the winter months and performed nicely with the Albany City Rocks AAU program.
"He is very coachable," said Albany City Rocks program director Jim Hart. "And he is very competitive."
Hart has no doubt that Fields will eventually become a solid division one prospect on the college level. After all, Jamel has four more years to polish his craft.
Hart is looking for one area to improve for the 6-foot, 165-pound floor general. "He will have to improve his decision making as a point guard," Hart stated.
But there are several aspects that Hart praised too. "He gets to the basket at will," Hart said. "He is a strong finisher for his size who gets to the free throw line a lot."
Both of the above strengths are very important for any point on any level. It's early in Fields' recruiting process but you can bet the area schools are already keeping a close eye on his progress.
