Former Area Coach Makes Noise With Recruits

Scout.com's Mike Sullivan and Brian Towey outline some key commitments and the influence a former area coach had in the big recruiting wins ...

If you Google the name of Chris Pompey, a string of articles appear detailing the recruiting wins the former assistant from Hartford has gotten over the past year.

Pompey, who is well-known in the New York City area, delivered again big time for New Mexico State University, according to sources. The staff of New Mexico State helped deliver some significant signings for head coach Reggie Theus, who seems to have the program headed in a positive direction.

According to sources, New Mexico State received letter of intents from talented guard Jahmar Young, 6-foot-4, and Herb Pope, a highly rated forward by national editor Dave Telep. As of last night, there were many still trying hard with Pope. Young had previously played at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

Reporter Brian Towey first reported the verbal commitment by Young to New Mexico State in September on this site. Young also competed for Anthony Lewis, Young's coach with the Cecil Kirk AAU program.

Brian Towey's Evaluation: Young, who attended Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, last year, is a noted shooter who commanded interest from a wide range of East Coast programs, and enhanced his stock with his play during July.

Jahmar impressed us at the Reebok Summer Classic East at Fairleigh Dickinson University with Cecil Kirk, displaying a fluid stroke, solid mid-range touch, nice range, and a strong feel for the game.
