Long Island Guard Has D-1 Interest

Scout.com's East Coast recruiting expert Mike Sullivan has some information on a Long Island guard ...

Every successful basketball program needs a solid floor general to direct the offense. And when your basketball program has consistently had success, then it's not surprising that the position has been solid for a long time.

Such is the case for the St. Mary's basketball program. Head coach Robert Jones needs to have a big season out of point guard Scott Machado. The 6-foot-1 lead guard will have to be solid on both ends of the court for Jones this season for the Gaels to have a big year.

Many that have watched Machado think one of his biggest strength's -- is his strength. Jones feels Machado's strong frame allows him to get to the rim, causing massive problems for defenders inside the paint.

The schedule for St. Mary's features either scrimmages or games against Rice, Christ The King, Bishop Loughlin, St. Dominic's twice. So steady play from the point guard position will have a big impact on the wins and losses this season.

Schools of Interest: Yale, Rutgers, George Mason, Davidson, Clemson, Stony Brook.

Conclusion: Machado has a couple of seasons to make improvements in his game. His recruiting story has yet to be written since he is a 2008 prospect.
