Profile: New Yorker Nick Murphy

A look at the individual game of Nick Murphy, who is good enough to play division one college basketball ...

PROFILE:; NICK MURPHY

PREP SCHOOL: HARMONY PREP IN CINCINNATI

FORMER HIGH SCHOOL: OUR SAVIOR LUTHERAN, BRONX, N.Y.

HEIGHT: 6-FOOT-4

PREP COACH: MARK METZKA

WHAT HIS PREP COACH IS SAYING: Nick had a great AAU season. Coming here, he had to adjust to the style of play from AAU. But he's made the adjustment and he's doing very well." (Thanks to Brian Towey)

WHAT BRIAN TOWEY AND MIKE SULLIVAN ARE SAYING ABOUT MURPHY: Nick Murphy was a pleasure to watch during the AAU season, whether it was in th summer on the road or at IS8 this Fall. He works so hard on every possession and gives a terrific effort inside the paint against bigger bodies.

Murphy, a lefty with no fear, competed also with the Long Island Lightning under Dana Dingle. Murphy hustles and retrieves most loose balls around the basket. He has quick hands and does a good job at deflecting entry passes.

CONCLUSION: There has to be a place for Nick Murphy to play division one basketball. He may not be the biggest player on the court or the most dazzling shooter or passer, but Nick is a winner. Many of his contributions don't show up in the boxscore. But college coaches understand the value of his game.
