Barton: Deonte Roberts Is A Quality Player

Notre Dame Prep head coach Bill Barton has plenty of talent to choose from when selecting a lineup. But it's a challenge to this highly respected coach to make sure he mixes and matches the proper personnel to help his program be successful in each contest.

So far Barton has been terrific in doing so.

"There are a lot of good players on the team," said Barton, after his team defeated South Kent School at Pace University last weekend. "But this makes the practices very competitive and you have to earn your time on the court."

Barton has been happy with the combination of Sean Crawford and Deonte Roberts. Crawford, formerly of Cardozo High School in Bayside, N.Y., handles the lead guard responsibilities in Barton's setup offense.

"Deonte handles the lead guard situations when we are running the ball up the court," said Barton. "In our setup offense, we use Deonte off the ball. It has worked out well."

Barton has been thrilled that Crawford has made a nice adjustment to this offensive style. And he's also pleased about Roberts. "Deonte is going to be a very good college player," Barton said. "I like his game a lot."

Roberts, a 6-foot-2 backcourt player from St. Paul, Minn., will compete for Wisconsin-Milwaukee, according to Barton. "He'll do well there," Barton stated. "Deonte can play both backcourt positions and is a tough player."
